As Jimmy Greaves used to say to Ian St John, "well, it was a game of two 'alfs Saint !" This phrase would have summed up todays match very appropriately. The first half saw some good flowing football from both sides with Blaze looking good and confident on the ball. However, it was Tiptree that took the lead with a fine strike from outside the box that left Harris with no chance. Within minutes, Blaze were back in it as a good move culminated in a fine finish from Hills. All square at the break with the match looking finely poised.
Playing uphill at the start of H2, Blaze were under pressure immediately and it wasn't long before another fine strike put Tiptree ahead. Going behind seemed to have a real impact on Blaze as the ball was given away straight from the restart (how many times does that happen?) and Blaze conceded a soft goal. Now Tiptree had their tails up and were looking strong, clearly wanting it more than the lads in red and black who were struggling to get out of their half. Tiptree started to exploit the space and some slack defending resulted in a very soft 4th goal.
4-1 was the final score but it could have been more. Credit to Tiptree for the deserved win and to Blaze for an excellent first half.
Today's lessons:
Team - maintain defensive focus, discipline and shape for the entire 60 minutes and not led heads drop after conceding.
Management - work harder on the team's positioning and dealing with goal kicks when playing uphill.
