Another tough workout for the lads today. Some tired legs after a match followed by a long football birthday party yesterday ! Blaze were in defensive mode for much of the half but held Uplands at 0-0 until half time. Karakasis, Sarhan, Paterson and Harris were once again having fine games at the back but the forwards were often isolated both from each other and the rest of the team. After more pressure in H2 playing uphill, Blaze began to lose some shape and discipline and the defence was often outnumbered. The result - Blaze shipped three goals, despite Harris' fine efforts.
The season has not started yet but it is clear that we must find a way of holding the ball up in the final third and getting the midfield and strikers in closer contact when we are on the offensive. In addition, midfield need to track back more effectively to help the defense. I guess the obvious answer is to play both "a man in the hole" and a holding midfielder. A 3-1-2-1-1 formation next week - we shall see !!
